Badass Interview #1: Brittany

Brittany is successful young woman, who works at Kindercare as an Operations Manager. She and her husband Dante live in Oregon City with their fur kids, Ollie (pronounced OWREE, just kidding, but it’s just cute and I like it that way – he’s an adorable King Charles Cavalier/maybe mixed with something?) and Belle (a sweetheart rescued greyhound).

Brittany is driven and self-motivated. She gets more accomplished before 0600 than most of us get done all day. She’s up at 0430, to the gym by 0500, (where she kicks ass like the Wonder Woman that she is) then it’s off to work, where she has used her focus and hard-working get-sh*t-done attitude to go from an entry-level position to management in less than five years. And all without a business degree! She is smart and talented, and her success so far is a sure indicator of great things to come in her future!

I met Brittany through Gene, as she is married to one of his best friends, Dante.

Dante!

We started talking while we were all playing Final Fantasy together (I’m a healer- surprise! Brittany is pretty much the best DPS- and if you don’t know what that means, I’ll quote Brittany’s here: “PEW PEW PEW” – now you get it, right?). The more time we spent together, the more I felt like Brittany and I were meant to be the bestest best friends! I think one of my favorite things when we were playing would be her adorable outbursts (see “PEW PEW PEW”, and sometimes “WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!” among other amazing narratives/expletives).

Brittany, (like myself) likes hiking, eating, drinking, Disney (she is working on her Disney princess sleeve tattoo- it’s FABULOUS), adventures, TSwift, animals, crafts… the list goes on. If you’ve ever met someone, and in the process of getting to know them said, multiple times, over and over again, “Oh my gosh, me tooooooooooo!”, then you know the kind of deep, meaningful, soul-connection I experienced in getting to know Brittany.

She and I decided to start this kind of project thing (her idea), where we hike, and eat and adventure, and then take lots of pictures to learn about photography, while we get to know each other even better, then we blog about it! You can read more about our adventures on the blog! Here’s a quick interview to get to know a fellow friendly badass!

Q: Tell me about yourself:

A: Well, born and raised in Portland. I love the PNW. I love eating good food, drinking good beer, and working hard.

Q: How would your friends or family describe you?

A: Driven. Silly. Fun. Passionate. Smart. Hard working.

(side note: this friend agrees with the above answer)

Q: What’s your superpower and/or your spirit animal?

A: Telekinesis (even if it is a total cop out) and an otter.

Q: What do you think being a “friendly badass” entails?

A: Ooh, a friendly Badass. That’s a great question! I feel like a Badass is someone who sticks to what they believe in, and aren’t afraid to show it, no matter what situation they’re in.

Q: What is/are your greatest professional or personal achievement(s)?

A: Personal: losing fifty pounds. Professional: it’s hard to express this, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come- entry level to a management position in under five years, without a business degree.

Q: Who is/are your role model(s)?

A: Gal Gadot. Because she’s amazing!

Q: When have you been most satisfied with life, and why then?

A: I think right now. I feel like I’m in a good place in my relationship, a good place in my career. I feel like now, more than ever I know who I am and what I want.

Q: What is your dream job?

A: Working at Nike or Adidas in operations or WORK AT DISNEY IN ANY CAPACITY! (this was said very loudly/happily/quickly – hence ALL CAPS!).

Q: What is your favorite piece of advice you’ve either received or given?

A: The best piece of advice I’ve ever received is don’t be afraid to fail, and learn from your mistakes. And don’t repeat them.

Q: What is something you’ve learned that really stuck with you?

A: That it’s OK to fail.

Q: What would you consider your biggest strength? Weakness?

A: Biggest strength: my ability to keep going even when things get tough, or when things don’t go my way, or if I do fail, continuing to push forward and learning from my mistakes. And loving alllllll the puppies (pets Ollie). Biggest weakness: I don’t know how to relax.

Q: What are your favorite hobbies?

A: I like hiking. I like playing TsumTsum. I like taking bubble baths. And perler beads. And going to the gym of course- being a Badass and a beast.

Q: If you could tell your teenage self anything, what would it be?

A: Omg so many things! I would tell myself to go to college for business! I would tell myself go live life unashamed.

Q: Anything else to add?

A: I don’t think so! Jess is awesome and I like hiking with her!

(Disclaimer: not a paid actor).

Yay!!!

Since this is our first interview, let me know what you think!!! Any feedback would be lovely – let me know what you want to know! Happy Badassery to you all!
