Hello fellow Badass, and welcome! My name is Jessica, and I’m glad you’re here!
I’m half nerdy-kid-at-heart and half old-soul-cat-lady. I’m an RN, working in Oncology Infusion
to pay for my expensive tastes in pets and husband to help make a difference in the lives of others! All jokes aside, I really love what I do- the patients are amazing, my coworkers are LITERALLY the best, and at the end of the day – even the hardest days – I can go to bed knowing I helped someone. It’s pretty outstanding.
My husband, Gene and I live in the Willamette Valley of Oregon with our five animals. We’ve got three cats: two 8 year old brother cats named Linus & Woodstock, and Momo, a.k.a “His Momoness” – an ugly duckling kitten turned beautiful gray fluff lion. Our two pups are Luna “The Boulder” a sweet and spoiled Golden Retriever, and Suki “Tea Time”, a spunky rescued “California Brown Dog” (ie: we have no idea what breed she is, but she’s cute!).
I love animals, the outdoors and reading. If I could have a super power, I’d want to be able to give everyone an education. And fly. Or be Jessica Jones level super strong. No, wait…the education thing…
I believe in kindness and optimism, coffee, tattoos and well placed curse words. Rainbow is my favorite color (our wedding theme was Rainbows and Dinosaurs, but that’s a whole ‘nother post), and if it’s got an octopus or a sloth on it, I’ll love it.
Favorite movie is “Love Actually”, but if I need a good cry it’s “A Little Bit of Heaven”
Favorite TV show is Firefly, followed closely by The Gilmore Girls or Psych.
Favorite book is “The Art of Racing in the Rain” and favorite series is “Harry Potter”, of course – but I love all sci-fi, fantasy, fiction and most other books!
I can be perfectly content cuddled up at home with my pets and a good book, or traveling the world with my husband/friends/family. I’m constantly making new goals and trying new things. I’ve been both vegetarian and vegan in my past, but my stomach couldn’t handle it long-term, and if I could just rescue all the animals in need of a home, I’d die happy!
I tend to spend a lot of time thinking about this life we live, how to live it better, and how to “do it right”. The nature of my work makes me want to check off that bucket list ASAP- to see all the places and do all the things RIGHT NOW (because what if there isn’t a “later”?)! But in reality, most of us have to work, pay the bills and request vacation time to do all those things, so I try to be patient (NOT my best asset) and balance the fun with the adulting.
With this blog I’m hoping to share some of the ways I try to live a badass life, and I hope you’ll share yours with me too!
